Story Time

This watch was purchased in 1961 from none other than Boodles — a name that has long been synonymous with prestige, fine jewellery, and world-class diamonds. Even then, Boodles was already a heavyweight in the jewellery world, renowned for quality and craftsmanship. As a Liverpool-born business, it only made sense that their flagship store proudly sat in the heart of the city.

And what a time to be in Liverpool.

The early 1960s saw the city exporting many things, but one in particular would soon take over the world: four Liverpudlian guys who would become the biggest band on the planet. Fresh from their gruelling gigs in Hamburg, they returned home and began a legendary residency at The Cavern Club. Between 1961 and 1963, they performed there an astonishing 292 times.

The Cavern Club was a buzzing hub of music, energy, and possibility — and it just so happened to be perfectly placed in the city centre. In fact, it sat so close to Boodles that you could stroll from one to the other in about 30 seconds.

So I like to imagine a moment in time…

Four young musicians wandering past the Boodles window between gigs and one of them saying, “Go on Ringo… one day we’ll have one of these.”.
